Dear Arlington Community,

This memo is to notify the Arlington community that Kindergarten registration will be opening today. This letter serves to provide you with information about our registration process. Please share this letter with community members who have children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall. Kindergarten eligibility applies to all children who will be five years old by 9/1/2024.

Kindergarten Online Registration will open on Thursday, February 8, 2023 at 11AM

In Arlington, some families live in “buffer zones,” which provides the district with the ability to balance sections and enrollments across elementary schools. More information about buffer zones is provided later in this letter. All registrations completed (submitted and approved by the Registration Team) between Thursday, February 8th, and Wednesday, February 28th at midnight will receive buffer zone decisions by March 15th.

Information about how to register for After-School Programming at each school can be found here. District-sponsored after-school programs will accept applications to enter lotteries until March 24th, with confirmations to go to families by April 1st. Programs external to Arlington Public Schools may have different application deadlines; please check their websites for more information.

Application Process: What are the steps of the application process?

  1. Check the Registration Checklist for details on the accepted documentation and gather required forms before filling out the registration form to upload.

  1. Create a PowerSchool account for School Year 24/25 and fill out and submit the registration form.

  1. You will receive a confirmation email from the Registration office that your application has been received immediately following submission, Registration personnel may contact you if there are any questions or follow up needed on missing/incomplete documents.

  1. Once your application has been approved by registration, you will receive an approval email.

  2. Once your application is approved, the school your child will be attending, will connect with you by email in regards to potential screenings, academic questions, or with details on when your child will meet the teachers for the upcoming school year.

  3. Students who live in buffer zones will be assigned to their school by the Superintendent. You will receive a notice of your buffer zone assignment shortly after it has been decided.

  4. Further information regarding your student’s onboarding process, including classroom assignments and meeting teachers will come directly from the school, Menotomy Preschool, or a Special Education Team chair (depending on the student type you used to enroll).

Registration Information: How do I register my student?

Parents/guardians will need to complete a registration form for the academic year in which they wish to enroll. Enrollment is done through the PowerSchool Enrollment platform.

Click this link to access the Online Kindergarten Registration Portal

The Registration Home Page provides links to the enrollment form and provides answers to commonly asked questions.

IIn the form you will have the opportunity to respond to the following:

  • Student Enrollment Information, Family Demographics, Emergency Contacts, Health Questionnaire and Permissions.

  • The Responsible Use Policy Agreement, Education History and the Home Language Survey.

You will need to provide supporting documents to complete your application. These documents are necessary to prove residence in Arlington, verify your child(ren)’s age, acknowledge compliance with health regulations and ensure appropriate enrollments. It is best to gather the required documents before filling out the application. Please refer to the Registration Checklist to prepare the appropriate documents.

If you do not have all forms readily available while filling out the application, you will still be able to submit the online form; however, your application approval can not begin until all documents are received by the Registration Office. If documents are missing, the Registration team will be in contact with you to obtain these documents.

Approval Process: What should I expect after submitting my application?

Once your application is submitted you will receive confirmation of receipt by email. A second notification will be emailed once your application is approved (within three weeks of submission). If you do not get an approval email within three weeks of submitting, please email [email protected].us.

Once your application has been approved by registration, school teams will connect with you by email in regards to potential screenings, academic questions, or with details on when your child will meet the teachers for the upcoming school year.

Additional Information for Buffer Zone Students/Families

Students who live in buffer zones will be assigned to their school by the Superintendent. You will receive a notice of your buffer zone assignment shortly after it has been decided. To the extent possible, students will be assigned to their school of preference. If the primary selection was not chosen, parents will have the option to have their child placed on a waitlist for their preferred school. The waitlist will be determined by the date of the registration and then by lottery. For more information on buffer zones, please refer to:
